Guidance Counsellor's News

It is always a fantastic outcome when pastoral and guidance teams come together in support of important causes. It was a pleasure for Ms Fiona Day and Ms Michelle Sams to accept the invitation from Ms Laura Steel (Romero House Leader), who tirelessly designed, collaborated and initiated two student led activities throughout the Bullying No Way: National week of action from 11-15 August.

For the first day of celebration, Ms Steele organised all Year 12 students, all of Romero, as well as some Avila, Champagnat and Polding to form a human sign saying “No Way” on the oval. This was captured by talented Drone Pilot Mr Troy Coggins. The results were amazing, parking further discussion about how Carmel College can support students and reduce bullying in educational settings.

In line with the theme of “Be Bold, Be Kind and Speak Up” and the colour purple, Ms Steele and Ms Day planned a picnic on the oval to celebrate day two of the action week. Staff were encouraged to wear the colour purple to signify their support of the theme and stance against bullying. The picnic brought together students, teachers, counsellors, CLT members, and pastoral and learning enhancement teams with picnic blankets, food, icy poles, and friendship-themed music.

We hope to elevate these types of whole school celebrations in the future, as they really are a wonderful way to connect and demonstrate Carmel College’s commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for our community. A big shout out to Ms Steele and the Pastoral and Wellbeing Team for a great action week.
