Curriculum Matters - Years 7-9

NAPLAN RESULTS

Year 7 and 9 students will receive their Individual Student Reports by mail in the coming week.

Please remember NAPLAN assessments are one aspect of how our school assesses and measures student learning. It complements the extensive, ongoing assessments made by teachers about each student’s progress and performance and the information provided through the Learning Dashboard.

Your child’s report allows you as parents to see how your child is progressing against national standards in literacy and numeracy. For information on how to interpret these reports see here. We encourage you to discuss individual student progress with your child’s classroom teacher at any time.

For the first time since 2023, we are able to measure the progress of our Year 9 students from Year 7 to see the impact of our teaching and programs. We are very pleased with these results and congratulate all students on their efforts.

As a college, we now delve further in to the results and complete gap analyses to see where we can support particular groups of students and to review our units of work.

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING?

I have been in a couple of Year 8 Science classes this week, as students have been learning about different types of cells. We were all excited to see the apple cells which looked like fireworks and bemused by the hairy housefly legs.

In Year 7, students are starting their integrated Sustaina-Suburb unit with learning in English, Religion, HASS and Science. Over the course of the term they will consider how they can design a new suburb for Redland City and consider the environmental, economic and social factors which influence liveability and inclusivity. They will also address wildlife needs in a parkland space to ensure that the ecosystem is sustainable and protected as part of our Catholic Social Teachings. I am looking forward to seeing their ideas come to fruition!
